This year, the award was presented on 30 November, during a festive and warm ceremony with all of Sweden's nominated entries in attendance, at the Vasateatern in Stockholm.
This year's winner of the Great Tourism Award 2022 was presented with the motivation:
"The winner manages a Swedish cultural heritage in an innovative and sustainable way. They have redefined the concept of a luxury hotel, transforming a barren island into an attractive destination that puts West Sweden and Sweden on the international map. A true role model and inspiration for other companies. The winner of the Great Tourism Award 2022 - Pater Noster!"
On stage to receive the award was Mirja Lilja Hagsjö, CEO and founder of Pater Noster A home on the horizon.
- It is a great honour to receive the Great Tourism Award, thank you! It's a great honour to be able to work with this, and it means a lot for the whole area and the region, not least thanks to the National Property Board, which believes in us and our work. All of us who work at Pater Noster love the island, the magical views and weather changes and the conditions for creating awesome guest experiences. Now we're working even harder to raise the profile of the destination so that more guests find their way here and experience this amazing place, our home on the horizon," says Mirja Lilja Hagsjö.
Pater Noster's Anders Rasmusson, Operations Manager and co-owner, Erik Nissen Johansen, co-owner, photographer, design and PR, were also present at the awards ceremony, together with Fredrik Lindén, CEO of the West Sweden Tourist Board.
Pater Noster A home on the horizon was nominated in September and represented Västra Götaland in the Great Tourism Prize 2022.
- Pater Noster's owners and management are unique when it comes to spreading their message across the world, making Pater Noster a draw for the whole of western Sweden's visitor industry. They are also good at sustainability and are constantly improving on the environmental, social and economic aspects of this. In addition, Pater Noster has completely redefined the concept of luxury hotels. Instead of opulence, it is the rugged, weather-beaten location with a genuine history that constitutes luxury. Pater Noster is an incredibly worthy candidate for the Great Tourism Award 2022, said Fredrik Lindén, CEO of Turistrådet Västsverige. ahead of the nomination in September.
