Pater Noster is an award-winning lighthouse hotel on a secluded island at the far end of the Bohuslän archipelago on Sweden’s west coast. The boat ride from Marstrand is part of the experience, and once you arrive, the lighthouse, the food, the nature, and island life await you.
Here, we live on the island’s and the sea’s terms. The weather, the wind, and the season set the tone, and every stay takes on its own rhythm.

9:00 a.m. Breakfast.
Then there’s another day to look forward to at Pater Noster, or—when it’s time to head home—the journey back across the sea.
The trip out to the island is an experience in itself. Out on the fjord, you’ll see Carlsten Fortress in Marstrand slowly fade away to the east as your gaze turns westward. Then it appears on the horizon—the king of lighthouses, Pater Noster.
As we pull into the small harbor, the story begins of the lighthouse and the people who lived here, subject to the whims of the sea and nature. During a guided tour, you’ll get to know the island, the houses, and the small lighthouse community, and climb the 32-meter-tall lighthouse, with the Bohuslän archipelago stretching out all around you.
Then let the island set the pace. Here, there’s room for both community and tranquility. Find your spot on the cliffs, settle in with a book, or simply pause to take in the sea and the horizon.
The water we use at Pater Noster is desalinated and purified seawater. We consider it the island’s luxury item. Even the coffee has been carefully selected—an organic, light-roasted bean from a small roastery in Gothenburg, chosen to complement our water.
As evening approaches, we gather in the old wine cellar for champagne. Dinner is served wherever the weather permits—in the Lighthouse Keeper’s dining room, in the Sjöboden, or out in the courtyard. The sea is ever-present, even on our plates, with ingredients and flavors from Sweden’s west coast.
After dinner, enjoy the island’s coffee—or perhaps something stronger in the Lighthouse Keeper’s lounge. Then let the evening unfold at its own pace.
And the next morning, it all starts over again—but the island is never quite the same. The light, the wind, and the sea have changed.
There are no filters here. Just the ocean, the weather, and a place that changes from day to day.
The historic lighthouse dwelling from 1868 was home to generations of lighthouse families for over 100 years.
In 2020, the lighthouse residence underwent a gentle renovation and is today transformed into an award-winning boutique hotel offering nine individually decorated rooms in an atmosphere characterized by sea and history.

With its proximity to Marstrand and only an hour from Gothenburg, Pater Noster is a spectacular venue for conferences, kick-offs and corporate events all year round.
From vision to reality, we help you tailor a stay based on your goals - safely, flexibly and creatively.

The old food cellar now serves as the island's wine cellar. Here we offer wine tasting with perhaps the best view in the world. The wine tastings are put together by our sommelier and are held at a relaxed level, where we usually focus more on conversations about wine and production than on looking for exact scents and aromas. Tasting can be booked in connection with a booking of at least 6 adults. Contact us via email for more information.

Paddle about 2h with a guide in a sea kayak among the islets around Pater Noster. Enjoy the salty winds as we gently glide through the Paternoster archipelago and its surrounding islands. Perhaps we will be joined by curious seals on the trip as we paddle along the coastal strip and explore the archipelago via small straits and bays where only a kayak can reach.

One of the few remaining professional fishermen on Marstrand offers a unique experience for fishing enthusiasts. During the fishing season from May to October, he shows you his favorite fishing spots and shares his best tips for a successful fishing trip. Angling is popular and it is common to catch cod, mackerel, saithe, dogfish, butterfish and ling. The outer reefs around Pater Noster at a depth of 15-40 meters are usually the fishing area. During the lobster fishing season in October, there is a different type of fishing, where you can catch lobsters in traps placed on the seabed. A really exciting and educational activity for anyone who loves fishing and wants to discover the best fishing on the West Coast.
